One way Valley Girls and Guys spreads HOPE to others is through our blanket fund. These warm, fleece blankets are personalized to any and all individuals going through any type of cancer all over the world as our way of embracing them and their loved ones during these challenging times It is our HOPE that these blankets provide each cancer patient and their family with a sense of comfort knowing that they are loved and supported by so many as they fight this battle.
On September 20, 2022, Valley Girls and Guys lost our beloved Grandma Gurdy (Glenda), mother of founder Tina McDonough, to her own 2 year, 3 month, 12 day battle with cancer. Glenda LOVED Valley Girls and Guys and had a heart for each and every person who walked with us in the 3-day, attended every event and believed in our mission to harness the power of community to support cancer patients – each and every day. Glenda also touched every single blanket ordered from day 1. Not only did she help package up the blankets with care and deliver them to the post office. She was also caught many times driving across town to hand-deliver blankets to those who needed comfort, give them a warm embrace and personally share the power of HOPE within our community. Grandma Gurdy Glenda’s Blankets of Comfort and Hope will continue to live on in her memory through this program as we continue to fight with, for and in memory of those facing this horrible disease. She will forever be missed, and we will carry her kindness, laughter and joy with us always.
As of November 2022, we have sent over 2130+ blankets. We have sent blankets to children as young as one year old to patients as old as 92. Each blanket is personalized with the cancer patient’s name and is made of soft fuzzy material, just what you would want to wrap yourself in while undergoing treatment.
If you know of someone that is currently battling cancer and is in need of a blanket, please use the form below to order a blanket for them.
